Alexis Vaughn had been happy as a loner, or so she thought. Life took an unexpected turn when she was selected by the Tree of Reverence to become one of it’s guardians. It wasn’t possible that she, a simple shape shifter, was that important. She was sure that the tree had made a mistake.

Two quests later, there was no mistake. She was indeed a guardian of the Tree of Reverence. Bonus? She also had friends. Real friends that were human and not of the four legged, furry variety. On top of that, other students were seeking her out for help on class work and saying hello in the hallways. Was this all a dream come true?

The dream would soon become a nightmare when she discovers someone entered her name in the contest to become Queen of Valentine Dance. There was no way she would win and no way she’d handle the embarrassment of losing. Just the thought had Alexis planning to boycott the dance, but the Tree had other ideas. Forced to stay and face the bad music, Alexis was prepared for the worst in the form of laughter at her expense. Instead, the worst came in the form of the dark mist.

Unable to hide in her shell any longer, Alexis knew she had to step up and lead the Guardians on their next quest. She would have to accept she was no longer alone in their magical world and it was time to put aside what mattered the least in favor of what mattered the most. She would need to be brave and reach out for help for herself and for those that she loved the most or chance losing them forever.
